HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team faced Hofstra in the opening game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series at University Field.
Hofstra's (16-23, 10-12 CAA) offense got the Pride out to a 6-0 lead after three innings against Towson (17-26, 5-17 CAA).
Brian Heckelman drove in a run in the sixth to get the Tigers on the board. The Pride added four in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh to win 12-1 in seven innings.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Dutch DeProspero (2-7) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on 12 hits in 5.0 innings pitched. DeProspero struck out four batters faced.
- Hofstra starter Carlos Martinez (3-2) earned the win after allowing one earned run on five hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Martinez struck out seven and walked one.
How it Happened:
- Hofstra jumped out to an early lead with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning.
- With runners on the corners in the second, CJ Griggs doubled to left center, adding one run to the Pride lead.
- Gallello led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run, putting Hofstra up by six.
- AJ Kolb hit a two-out single in the sixth and moved to second on a balk. Brian Heckelman followed with a single up the middle to put the Tigers on the board.
- The Pride added four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 10-1.
- Griggs hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game at 12-1 after seven innings in favor of the Pride.
