Towson Women’s Lacrosse Drops Last Non-Conference Contest to No. 25 Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Towson University women's lacrosse team traveled to Philadelphia for the team's last non-conference matchup of the season against No. 25 Penn. The Tigers (6-10, 4-2 CAA) dropped to the Quakers (8-6, 5-1 Ivy League) Wednesday evening.

Luca DeMaio paced the Tigers in goals with a hat trick, while Elise Smigiel added two. Valerie Thompson, Hailey Waldron and Hannah Lewis each chipped in one.

  • Penn outshot Towson, 43-17. 
  • The Tigers recorded six saves while the Quakers tallied five. 
  • Towson won the draw control game, 15-14. 

How it Happened vs. No. 25 Penn 
  • The Quakers struck first midway through the opening quarter, scoring three consecutive goals. 
  • Hannah Lewis trimmed the deficit to two with a goal in the final minute of the period. 
  • Elise Smigiel found the back of the net just 48 seconds into the second quarter, bringing the Tigers within one. 
  • Penn responded with a 2-0 run before Luca DeMaio capitalized on a free-position opportunity.  
  • The teams traded goals, with Towson's third of the quarter coming from DeMaio. 
  • Penn then used a 4-0 run to extend its lead to 10-4 heading into halftime. 
  • Both sides opened the second half with matching two-goal runs, making it 12-6. 
  • The Quakers added two more goals to close out the third quarter. 
  • DeMaio completed her hat trick early in the final period with another free-position goal.  
  • Penn answered with two more scores before Smigiel netted her second of the game. 
  • The Quakers closed on a 4-0, as the Tigers fell 8-20.
