Towson Women’s Lacrosse Drops to No. 12/14 Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Towson University women's lacrosse team traveled to Long Island to take on No. 12/14 Stony Brook Friday night. The Tigers (4-8, 2-2 CAA) fell to the Seawolves (11-2, 4-0 CAA).

Hannah Lewis tallied three points for the Tigers, followed by Luca DeMaio with two. Elise Smigiel and Gabby Bjugan each contributed one.

  • Jenna Cardeno finished with 11 saves. 
  • The Seawolves outshot the Tigers, 41-18. 
  • Stony Brook won the draw control battle, 20-7. 

How it Happened vs. Stony Brook
  • The Seawolves opened the first quarter of play with a fast start, scoring three goals in the first five minutes. 
  • Luca DeMaio scored her 14th goal of the season off a free position attempt to put the Tigers on the board.  
  • Stony Brook responded with another goal, but Hannah Lewis netted her first of the game to cut Towson's deficit to two. 
  • The Seawolves closed the quarter with three unanswered goals.  
  • Stony Brook carried that momentum into the second quarter, opening with another score before the Tigers answered with back-to-back goals from Gabby Bjugan and Elise Smigiel.  
  • The Seawolves then pulled away, adding five goals to take a 13–4 lead into halftime. 
  • Towson was held scoreless in the third quarter as Stony Brook added four more goals. 
  • Lewis opened the final quarter by converting on a woman-up opportunity for Towson.  
  • Stony Brook answered with another goal before Lewis completed her hat trick.  
  • The Seawolves added one more with 2:22 remaining, and DeMaio scored her second of the game with 33 seconds left.  
  • Despite the late efforts, Towson fell to Stony Brook, 19–7.
