TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to UNCW in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action Friday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
 
UNCW (9-4, 4-1 CAA) captured the doubles point. After winning on court 3, the Seahawks No. 1 team of Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak improved to 11-2 with a victory over Kiersten Tambe and Chandrè Boshoff, who had won four straight.
 
On court 2, Towson's Aubrey Carper and Chloe Courtnage won for the fourth time in five matches – taking the set 6-3. The sophomore duo improved to 6-4 as a team this season.
 
UNCW clinched the match with straight set singles wins at flights 4, 6, 3 and 2.  
 
Towson (9-10, 2-5 CAA) won the other two singles matches.
 
At No. 1, Tambe upset Arli – winning the super breaker 10-8 after the two split the first two sets. Arli came into the match on a seven-match winning streak. Tambe has now won four of her last six matches.  
 
Ashira Murray (No. 5) improved to 14-4 on the season after a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 win. The junior Murray is 8-0 on court 5.
 
"We knew UNCW was going to be tough to beat," Towson head coach Jamie Peterson said. "We gave them a good run. Kiersten Tambe had her best win yet and Ashira remained undefeated at No. 5. We look to end the season on a high note next week."
 
Prior to match, Peterson honored senior Sania Suchinsky. The Rockville, Maryland native, who missed 12 matches this spring because of a battle with mononucleosis, is 22-21 lifetime in singles, including a 13-6 record on court 6.
