TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced Northeastern in the first game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series on Thursday afternoon at Brooks Robinson Field at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Northeastern (33-18, 21-7 CAA) scored three runs in the first, one in the second, two in the sixth, and one in the ninth, while holding Towson (21-31, 8-20 CAA) scoreless on three hits to take the series opener 7-0.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Dutch DeProspero (3-8) took the loss, allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched. DeProspero struck out four and walked four batters.
- Northeastern starter Robbie O'Connor (9-1) earned the win after pitching a three-hit complete game shutout. O'Connor struck out two and walked one batter.
How it Happened:
- Northeastern's Matt Brinker hit an RBI groundout with runners on the corners to start the game. Aschettino and Musacchia followed with a pair of RBI singles, putting the Huskies ahead 3-0 after the top of the first.
- With two runners in scoring position in the top of the fourth, Tarantino singled through the left side, scoring one.
- Following Musacchia's leadoff single in the sixth, Criscola hit a two-run home run to right field, adding to the Husky lead.
- Tyler Harmony got home on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning, extending the Northeastern lead to seven.
- The Tigers went down in order in the bottom of the ninth for a 7-0 final in the series opener.
