PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Towson University baseball team faced Villanova on Wednesday afternoon in the Tigers' final midweek road contest of the regular season.
Villanova (17-26) jumped out to a five-run lead through two innings and added seven in the fourth to build open that lead over Towson (18-29). The Tigers scored one run in the sixth, but failed to score in the seventh, giving the Wildcats a 14-1 win.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Ryder Jeske (2-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Jeske walked one batter faced.
- Villanova starter CJ Furey (2-1) earned the win after tossing 2.0 scoreless frames. Furey surrendered one hit, walked one and struck out two batters.
How it Happened:
- With one out in the bottom of the first, five-straight Villanova players reached base safely as the Wildcats scored three runs on four hits in the frame.
- They added two runs on four hits in the second, pushing their lead to 5-0.
- Giallusi (2), Freitag (2) Hotaling (1) and Lemon (1) each recorded RBIs in the fourth as Villanova extended its lead to 12-0.
- Lemon and Hotaling both recorded RBI hits in the fifth, pushing the Wildcats' lead to 14.
- Brian Heckelman hit a two-out double to left in the top of the sixth, putting a runner in scoring position. Ben Nugent followed with a pinch-hit RBI single to left, scoring Heckelman.
- Towson fell 14-1 in seven innings after failing to score in the final inning.
