Baseball Wins Series Opener vs. William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team faced William & Mary in the first game of a three-game series on Friday evening at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va.
 
Towson (19-29, 7-18 CAA) got out to a modest 4-3 lead over William & Mary (20-27, 11-14 CAA) through the first four innings. The Tigers' offense added three in the sixth, five in the eighth and three in the ninth to take the series opener, 15-3, at Plumeri Park.
 
Key Stats:­­
  • Towson starter Dutch DeProspero (3-7) earned the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched. DeProspero struck out three and walked two.
  • William & Mary starter Zach Boyd (1-3) took the loss in the start.
 
How it Happened:
  • Yariel Rodriguez hit a two-out, two-run home run to left field in the first inning, putting the Tigers up 2-0.
  • William & Mary's Kaczmarek hit a solo homer to left in the bottom of the second, getting the  Tribe within one.
  • With a runner on base in the top of the fourth inning, Nick LoBello hit a two-run home run
  • Kevin Francella hit a two-run RBI knock in the home half, getting the Tribe within one run.
  • Y. Rodriguez hit a double down the left field line with two runners on base, scoring both, in the top of the sixth. LoBello followed with an RBI single to score Y. Rodriguez, pushing the Tigers' lead to 7-3.
  • In the top of the eighth, Keldrin Rodriguez hit an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Later in the frame, Max D'Alessandro hit a grand slam to left field, pushing the Tigers' lead to 12-3.
  • Brian Heckelman added a three-run homer in the ninth, making it a 15-3 lead for the Black & Gold.
  • The Tigers stranded two Tribe runners on base in the bottom of the ninth to take the series opener, 15-3, at Plumeri Park.

The Tigers and Tribe continue their series tomorrow with game two at 3 p.m.
