Tigers Complete Comeback Victory over William & Mary to Secure Series Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team faced William & Mary in the second game of a three-game set on Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
 
Towson (20-29, 8-18 CAA) got out to a four-run lead in the top of the first but surrendered it to William & Mary (20-28, 11-15 CAA) after the Tribe posted six in the first and two in the second. The Tigers scored seven runs combined over the fourth and fifth innings, while holding the Tribe to two runs over the rest of the game to win 11-10 in game two of the series.
 
Key Stats:­­
  • Towson pitcher Joey Tuttoilmondo (2-2) took the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in 6.0 innings pitched. Tuttoilmondo struck out seven and walked two batters. Matt Lynch earned the save after tossing 1.2 scoreless frames. Lynch gave up one hit, struck out one and walked two.
  • William & Mary pitcher Jack Weight (4-3) took the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Weight struck out two and walked two.
 
How it Happened:
  • Keldrin Rodriguez singled to right center field with runners on first and second, scoring one for the Tigers in the first inning. Frank Adamski Jr. followed with a double down the right field line, adding another run. Later in the frame, Yariel Rodriguez dropped a two-run single into center, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
  • William & Mary added six runs on six hits in the home half to claim a two-run lead.
  • Louie Bartletti hit a two-run home run to right center in the second, extending William & Mary's lead to 8-4.
  • Following Brady Nathison's infield single, AJ Kolb homered to left field, getting the Tigers within two runs. Brian Heckelman followed with a solo home run to left. Later in the frame, Josh Janove singled through the left side of the infield to tie the game at eight.
  • Adamski Jr. hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the fifth, giving the Tigers an 11-8 lead.
  • The Tribe added two runs in the eighth inning on Bartletti's RBI single and Matthew Kosuda's sacrifice fly.
  • Matt Lynch stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, collecting his second save of the season, as the Tigers won 11-10.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Adamski Jr. finished the day batting 3-for-4 with a double, home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. It marks his 12th multi-hit game, tying him for the team lead.
  • Tuttoilmondo posted his best outing of the year, with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched, both season highs.

The Tigers and Tribe conclude their series with game three tomorrow at 1 p.m.
