Tigers Defeat Pirates to Conclude Virginia Road Swing

NORFOLK, Va. – Towson University women's soccer wrapped up a Virginia road trip with two Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) wins with a 3-1 victory over Hampton on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, Towson put three goals past the keeper to secure the 3-1 win. With the win, Sydney Lindeman becomes the Tiger with the most wins while on roster all-time.

"It was a poor first half for us and only generating three shots. We regrouped at halftime and came out better in the second half, creating 12 more shots. The first goal was excellent play from Sophie to Zuri to Meron in a beautiful triangle. Zuri really stepped up today and gave a great shift. The second goal was a great corner service from KP to the head of Emma. Emma timed it perfectly to put it in the back of the net. The third goal was also off a set piece from a corner from Rubio. Angel got a foot on it, Jayla headed it back to Sophie, and Sophie finished. It shows how important set pieces are — especially, if we aren't playing particularly well," Towson head coach Katherine Vettori said.

  • 56' Towson Goal – Meron Koro started the scoring for the Tigers. Thibeault received the ball just outside the 18-yard box. Thibeault fed the ball to Johnson who made the extra pass to Koro who placed the ball past the keeper.
  • 58' Towson Goal – Towson was awarded a corner. Perry took the corner and sent an inswinger towards the top of the six-yard box. Emma Levin got her head to the ball and redirected it on frame for the 2-0 Towson lead.
  • 72' Hampton Goal – The Pirate got a ball in space at the top of the 18 which they were able to put past the keeper to bring the score to 2-1.
  • 80' Towson Goal – The Tigers scored on another corner kick. Emely Rubio put the ball towards the top of the box. After the ball bounced around in the box, it fell to the feet of Thibeault who rifled the ball past an unsuspecting Hampton keeper for the third Towson goal of the day.
