Towson Falls to UMBC

CATONSVILLE, Md. – Towson University women's soccer fell to UMBC 3-1 on Thursday at UMBC.

Sydney Taylor scored her first collegiate goal, which was assisted by Angel Reid who registered her for collegiate point.

UMBC managed three goals mostly from receiving the ball in space between the Towson attackers and backline, leading to counter attacks.

  • 34' UMBC goalTeagan Gardner stopped an initial Retriever shot but the rebound found its way to the foot of a UMBC attacker who put the ball in the back of the net.
  • 69' UMBC goal – UMBC extended the lead to two goals when a ball with designs of a cross to a cutting attacker in front of the goal, snuck under the crossbar.
  • 75' UMBC goal – The Retrievers took a three-goal lead after getting the ball partially cleared to just inside the 18, which the UMBC attacker put away.
  • 86' Towson goal – Taylor scored her first college goal with a screamer from outside the 18. Reid pressured UMBC into a turnover which allowed her to get possession deep in the offensive end. Reid laid the ball back to Taylor who put it away for the goal.

  • Taylor and Reid are the second Towson duo to have their first collegiate points happen on the same play in the past two seasons. Last season, Levin scored her first goal from a Jaelyn White assist at George Washington.
  • The 23 shots is a new season high. The Tigers have gotten double digits shots in every match this season.
