Lydia Bennett Named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University field hockey senior Lydia Bennett has been named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week, the CAA announced Monday. This is Bennett's first career weekly honor.

Lydia Bennett started both of Towson's games at back this past week against Georgetown and Rider helping lead the Tigers to a pair of wins. Against the Hoyas on Friday, the Tiger defense kept Georgetown off the board for the final three quarters as Towson earned a 3-1 comeback victory. The Tigers only allowed seven total shots from the Hoyas in the game including just two in the second half.

On Sunday against Rider, Bennett contributed to Towson's first shut out of the season while allowing only two shots and two penalty corners including overtime where Tigers scored the golden goal to win 1-0. The two shots and two corners conceded in the game were both season lows for Towson.

Through both games the Tiger's opponents took only nine total shots and allowed just five penalty corners. Bennett and the Tiger defense have now gone seven consecutive quarters without allowing a goal.

The 2026 season continues this Friday at 6 p.m. when Towson travels to College Park to take on Maryland.
