A redshirt freshman, Shane Simpson had an impressive debut to the 2016 season as he set a new Towson single-game record for kickoff return yards. Simpson returned seven kickoffs for 229 yards. He broke the old record of 211 yards set by Lyrics Klugh against James Madison in 2015.  Simpson had a long return of 61 yards.
