Safonova excelled in her Towson debut this weekend at the 49er Classic, hosted by Charlotte. The junior transfer from Monroe College set the school record for hammer throw with a mark of 59.78m (196'1"). The previous record was 52.78m (173'2") set by Shianna Shivers in 2012. Safonova was the runner-up in the hammer throw at the 49er Classic. Her mark of 59.78m is the top mark in the CAA, ranks third in the NCAA East and 13th nationally. The next closest throw by a CAA student-athlete is 53.51m (175'7") by William & Mary's Leia Mistowski. Safonova also finished 13th in the shot put at the 49er Classic with a toss of 12.00m (39'4.50"). That ranks ninth among CAA student-athletes and 108th in the NCAA East.
