Towson Falls to #20 American 4-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. - #20 American scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-1 win over the Towson field hockey team on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (9-6) saw their two game win streak snapped while the Eagles (8-6) extended their win streak to two.

American got on the board just seven minutes in as Irene Schickhardt scored an unassisted goal. The Eagles added to their lead in the 14th minute as Schickhardt notched her second tally of the contest, this time on an assist from Jesika Pufnock.

Towson cut its deficit to one in the 23rd minute as senior Danielle Wacker poked one by the American keeper for her fourth goal of the season. Junior Christina Boarman picked up the assist on Wacker's goal. It was Boarman's 24th career assist at Towson, which is a new school record. The old record was 23rd held by Julie Lambi and Kelsey Fortier.

American held an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 2-1 advantage on the scoreboard at half time.

The Eagles increased their lead in the 56th minute as Christine Fingerhuth scored off an assist from Schickhardt. American got its final goal of the game in the 58th minute as Megan Henry scored on an assist from Pufnock.

Sophomore Whitney Clugston made three saves in goal for the Tigers while Alyssa Poorman made two saves for the Eagles.

Towson returns to action on Friday, October 24 when the Tigers will host Bryant. Prior to the start of the 7 p.m. game the Tigers will take a minute to honor their five seniors playing in their final home game.
