OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? Junior Christina Boarman had a hat trick to help lead the Towson field hockey team to a 7-1 win over Bryant University on Friday night. The Tigers (10-6), who set the school record for goals in a season, are now one win away from tying the school record for victories in a season.
“I feel like we played well tonight,” said Coach Michelle Webber. “This was a good win for us, I'm happy for the seniors and now we head into the Delaware game on a solid note.”
Boarman had three goals and an assist in the contest to give her 47 points on the year. She broke the Towson single-season goals record with her first tally, which was her 16th of the year. Boarman recorded the 100th point of her career with her third goal, becoming just the second player in school history to reach 100 points for their career.
Boarman tallied her first goal of the contest just over 11 minutes in off a corner. The assists on the goal went to seniors Stephanie Kisic and Laura Schnell. She added to the Towson lead in the 17th minute as she scored off an assist from junior Angie Brewer.
Towson took a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Tigers struck again in the 39th minute as Boarman notched her third goal of the game. Once again it was off a corner with Kisic and Schnell picking up the assists.
In the 41st minute it was sophomore Kristie Blumer scoring off an assist from junior Ellen Meara. Blumer struck for her second of the game, just eight minutes later.
Bryant got on the board in the 51st minute as Danielle Moody scored on a corner. The assists on Moody's goal went to Colleen Wilson and Katherine Andrusin.
The Tigers would pick up two more goals in the final ten minutes as senior Danielle Wacker was responsible for both tallies. Wacker's first goal came off an assist from senior Maureen Meara and the second was assisted by Boarman.
Sophomore Whitney Clugston was forced to make one save to record her 10th victory of the season. Jennifer Gullotti and Kundayi Mawema split time in net for Bryant combining to make 13 saves.
Towson honored its five seniors playing in their final home game prior to the contest and the seniors responded by accounting for nine of the Towson points on the night.
After three straight non-conference contests, the Tigers return to CAA play on Sunday at Delaware. Game time in Newark is set for 1 p.m.
