RICHMOND, Va. ? Behind 15 kills from sophomore Britney Loomis and a “double-double” from fellow sophomore Katee Luecke, the Towson volleyball team recorded a 3-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday night. The Tigers (18-9, 7-4 CAA) have now won three of their last four matches and avenged an early season loss to the Rams with the victory.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with 25-20 and 27-25 wins in games one and two. The Rams forced a fourth set with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Towson claimed victory in the match with a 25-14 win in game four.
Loomis had a team-high 15 kills and would add seven digs on the night. Luecke posted her ninth “double-double” of the season with 35 assists and a career-high 21 digs while adding five block assists. Senior Maddie Haseltine collected 10 kills while fellow senior Kristina Shannon had a season-high 19 digs. Sophomore Shelynne Hoyt and freshman Susan Gansor each collected five block assists to help the Tigers to 11 team blocks on the night.
Elisa Kuehnel had 12 kills and 11 digs to lead the Rams in the match. Laryssa Gonclaves posted a match-high 23 digs while Jessica Ojukwu contributed 19 kills. Cat Juson also posted a “double-double” finishing with 25 assists and 12 digs.
Towson now returns home to close out the regular season with three straight home matches. The Tigers will welcome Hofstra to the Towson Center on Friday, November 7 at 7 p.m.
