Longwood Hands Tigers 3-2 Defeat

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood College used three goals in the final 14 minutes to come from behind and defeat the Towson field hockey team 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Farmville, Va. The Tigers (5-1) saw their five-game win streak to start the season snapped despite holding a 2-0 lead at halftime.

A pair of juniors teamed up to give the Tigers an early lead in the 12th minute of the contest. Off a rebound in the box, junior Christina Boarman found fellow junior Mariah Schuette with a pass. Schuette then beat the Lancers goalie for her second goal of the season.

Towson added to its lead in the 26th minute as freshman Kim Schnell redirect a ball to freshman Katie DeFilippo in front of the net. DeFilippo banged the ball home for the second goal of her career. The Tigers would take a 2-0 lead into halftime and held a 9-7 advantage in shots to that point.

Longwood began its come back in the 56th minute as Carra Bunner passed the ball to Lauren Sullivan in front of the net. Sullivan then beat sophomore Whitney Clugston to make it a one-goal deficit for the Lancers.

The Lancers would tie the game in the 62nd minute as Bunner scored an unassisted goal. Longwood would then take the lead in the 65th minute as Sullivan assisted on Julia Hernandez's goal.
