OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? The #7 James Madison field hockey team scored three goals in each half en route to a 6-1 victory over the Towson University field hockey team on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (7-3, 1-1 CAA) have now lost two of their last three contests, both to ranked teams.
James Madison wasted little time in getting on the board in this one. Just 1:14 into the contest, Melissa Walls found Ashley Walls with a nice pass and she was able to put the ball in the net. The Dukes added to their lead in the 17th minute as Lauren Walls came up with an unassisted tally. James Madison struck again in the 22nd minute as Ashley Walls got her second goal of the half, this time on an assist from Lauren Walls.
James Madison would take a 4-0 lead in the 58th minute as Lauren Walls scored off a penalty corner.
Towson got on the board in the 60th minute as junior Angie Brewer scored off a Tigers' penalty corner. The assists on Brewer's goal went seniors Stephanie Kisic and Laura Schnell.
The Dukes would score two more times in the contest, both on penalty corners to make it a 6-1 final. Lauren Walls scored her third goal of the afternoon and Meghan Bain added a goal as time expired.
Sophomore Whitney Clugston made six saves on the afternoon for the Tigers while Kelsey Cutchins made seven saves.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, October 3 when they travel to Old Dominion. Game time in Norfolk, Va. is set for 5:00 p.m.
