Tigers Win Home Opener Over Ball State, 7-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by a career high-tying four goals from junior Christina Boarman, the Tigers opened their home schedule with a 7-0 victory over Ball State University (1-2) at Stevenson University Field on Friday afternoon. Boarman was one goal shy of the school record for goals in a game.

Boarman, who led the CAA in scoring last year, scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 first half lead. With her four-goal effort, she moved into fourth place on the Tigers' career points list and fifth place on the career goals list.

"I thought we played really well today, Boarman had a great day and looked like she was having a lot of fun out there," said Coach Michelle Webber.

An unassisted goal by sophomore Blythe Mackie in the 25th minute seperated Boarman's goals and helped give the Tigers a commanding lead at halftime.

Sophomore Kristie Blumer tallied her second goal of the season in the second half off a pass from Mackie in the 58th minute.

Freshman Katie DeFilippo capped the Towson scoring with her first career goal in the in the final :48 seconds of the game. Blumer took the ball in to the zone and found DeFilippo in front of the net for the score.

Sophomore Whitney Clugston made saves en route to her second straight shutout. Tiffany Shifflett made eight saves in net for the Cardinals.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, September 7 against Bucknell at 9:30 a.m.
