OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? Junior Christina Boarman scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Towson University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Bucknell on Sunday morning. The Tigers (3-0) are undefeated to start the season for the first time since the 2005 season when they started 5-0.
Boarman now ranks third in school history for career points with 66 and is tied for fourth in career goals scored with 26.
“I think each one of our three games so far has been a test for us,” said Coach Michelle Webber. “I thought today was one of the toughest tests we had faced and we kept our composure in the second half and it paid off.”
Bucknell got the on the board first in the contest. Just 4:56 into the game, Katie Ruiz settled a deflection in front of the net and poked it home for her second goal of the season. That goal snapped a 144:56 scoreless streak for the Tiger defense to start the season.
Towson tied the score in the 41st minute as Boarman took the ball in to the front of the net and poked it home for her fifth goal in the last two games.
The Tigers struck again in the 59th minute with what would prove to be the game winner on a corner. Senior Laura Schnell took the corner and after fellow senior Stephanie Kisic settled the ball, Boarman poked it home for her sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore Whitney Clugston made one save to record her third win of the season in goal. Jessie Atieh made eight saves for the Bison in the contest.
