#10 Drexel Defeats the Tigers 5-2

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Christina Mastropaolo scored a first-half hat trick to lead #10 Drexel to a 5-2 win over the Tigers on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association play.  The Tigers (6-11, 0-7 CAA) got a pair of assists from Christina Boarman in the game.

Drexel scored first as Mastropaolo struck for her first of the night with 18:15 to play in the half.

The Tigers would answer back with 3:41 to play in the half as Kasie Nurko scored her second goal of the year off an assist from Boarman.

Mastropaolo would strike two more times in the final two minutes of play to send Drexel into the break with a 3-1 advantage. Her second goal was unassisted while Jen Cairone earned the assist on the third goal. Drexel held a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners in the first half.

Susan Ciufo made it a 4-1 Drexel lead just over four minutes into the second half. Mastropaolo earned the assist on the goal.

Towson got its second goal of the game with 10:23 remaining in the contest as Mariah Schuette scored off an assist from Boarman.

Drexel capped the scoring with 20 seconds to play as Cairone scored off an assist from Jordan Freese.

Jamie Dowling started the game in net for the Tigers and made five saves. Whitney Clugston came on in relief action and made one save in just over seven minutes of work.  Jenna Phillips earned the win in net for the Dragons as she made four saves.

Towson concludes its 2009 season when it hosts Hofstra tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. The Tigers will take time prior to the game to honor their four seniors.
