Tigers Fall to Hofstra 3-2 in Season Finale

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Darrah Rachman's goal with 22:19 to play in the game lifted Hofstra to a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Saturday evening in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Tigers (6-12, 0-8 CAA) got a second half goal from Christina Boarman, who was one of four seniors playing in the final game of their career.

"I thought the team stepped up and played a good game by scoring the first goal and answering when Hofstra tied the game," said Coach Michelle Webber. "I believe the games this weekend have set a new standard for our program heading into the future."

Towson struck first in the contest as Blythe Mackie scored an unassisted goal with 15:49 to play in the first half. Mackie's goal was her fourth of the season and gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.

Hofstra got the equalizer with 7:02 to play in the half as Amy-Lee Levey was awarded a penalty stroke and converted it. Hofstra held a 6-3 advantage in shots in the first half and a 2-1 edge in penalty corners.

Boarman put the Tigers back on top in the game as she scored her sixth of the year with 28:34 to play.

Genna Kovar pulled the Pride even, scoring her first goal of the game with 24:45 to play in the contest. Rachman then got what would prove to be the game-winner with just over 22 minutes to play. Rachman's goal was also assisted by Kovar.

Hofstra finished the game with an 11-7 edge in shots while both teams recorded five penalty corners in the contest.

Jamie Dowling made six saves in net for the Tigers. Amanda Heyde earned the win in net as she made four saves.

Towson loses Boarman, Mariah Schuette, Ellen Meara and Angie Brewer to graduation but returns seven of its top ten scorers next season and Dowling in net.
