#1 Maryland Defeats Tigers 10-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Emma Thomas had three goals and three assists to lead #1 Maryland to a 10-1 victory over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Terrapin Invitational. The Tigers (2-4) got a goal from Mariah Schuette in the loss.

Maryland took just 4:05 into the contest to take the lead as Thomas scored off a pair of assists from Alexis Pappas and Katie O'Donnell. The Terrapins would tally three more times in the first half to grab a 4-0 lead by the 24th minute. That scoring stretch would also include the second goal of the half from Thomas.

Towson got on the board in the 27th minute as Schuette scored off a rebound for her third goal of the season. Maryland outshot the Tigers 9-2 in the first half and held a 5-1 advantage in corners.

Maryland would find the back of the net six times in the second half. Thomas scored her third goal of the game while Nicole Muracco scored twice in the second half. Katie O'Donnell had a goal and two assists in the second half.

Jamie Dowling earned the start in goal for the Tigers and made three saves. Whitney Clugston had three saves in her relief action. Alicia Grater made one save and earned the win in goal for the Terrapins. Melissa Vassalotti made two saves in relief action.

In addition to Thomas' three goals and three assists, O'Donnell had a goal and five assists. Muracco finished with three goals in the game for the Terrapins.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 18 when they travel to West Chester for a 4 p.m. game.
