TOWSON, Md. - Strong play at the net helped lead the Tigers to a 3-1 win over Lehigh on Wednesday night in the Towson Center. The Tigers (2-2) got a career-high 12 kills and eight blocks from Shelynne Hoyt and 11 kills from Britney Loomis to lead the way.
"I thought we improved on some things tonight and continued to do things well that we did over the weekend," said Coach Paul Koncir. "Shey and Amanda came through for us tonight and we need them to keep leading."
"For a young team, I think we are doing a good job of getting contributions from everyone," added Koncir.
Tied 10-10 in the first set, the Tigers got a kill from Amanda Halls that started a nine-point Tiger run and led to a 25-17 first set victory. The Tigers increased their lead with a 25-21 win in set two. Lehigh grabbed a 26-24 win in the third set to force another game in the match. Towson claimed victory in the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth set.
Hoyt had 12 kills and hit .391 while collecting two solo blocks and six block assists. Taylor Hawkins chipped in with nine kills and six block assists. Katee Luecke collected 27 assists and five digs while Missy Rohrbaugh had 10 digs. Alysha Fanning had nine kills to go along with two block solos and two block assists. As a team, the Tigers finished with 14 blocks.
Mo McReynolds had 13 kills for Lehigh while Chelsea Sheridan contributed 10 kills. Brittany Dickinson finished with 30 assists while Angelika Kopacz had 17 digs.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 4 when the Battle of Baltimore Tournament begins at Navy. Towson will face Maryland at 3 p.m. and Loyola at 7 p.m. on Friday before the action shifts to Towson for Saturday's play.
