George Mason Spoils Tigers' Senior Day, 2-0

TOWSON, Md. – Led by two goals from senior forward Omolyn Davis, George Mason University (11-7-1, 7-4-0) secured a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament by earning its third win in the last four games, a 2-0 victory over the Tigers (6-11-3, 2-8-1) at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.

The second-leading scorer in the CAA, Davis recorded her third two-goal game of the season as the Patriots earned their first CAA Tournament berth since 2007. They will either be the third or fourth seed in the four-team field depending on the result of the Georgia State-UNC Wilmington match, which will be played on Saturday.

Davis gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Davis took a long pass from sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Lowry and scored on a shot from 25 yards out.

Just under four minutes into the second half, Davis upped the George Mason advantage to 2-0 when she took a long crossing pass from junior defender Kelly Thomas and scored inside the penalty area for her ninth goal of the season.

From there, junior goalkeeper Alex Bodenschatz and the Patriot defense limited Towson to just seven shots in the second half en route to their sixth shutout of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak made five saves for the Tigers, who were outshot by a 12-9 margin. The Patriots also had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The loss ended the careers of senior defenders Melissa Gomes and Samantha Young, who were honored in pre-game ceremonies.
