Drexel Earns 4-3 OT Win Over Tigers

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Kim Tunell's overtime goal lifted Drexel to a 4-3 win over the Tigers on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association action. Katie DeFilippo had two goals and an assist for Towson (8-9, 2-5 CAA) in the loss.

Tunell gave Drexel (13-4, 6-1 CAA) an early lead in the game with a goal, 1:57 into the contest. Tunell's goal came off a penalty corner and was assisted by Christina Mastropaolo and Amanda Fleischut.

Towson tied the game at 16:11 as Tabi Hatch scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from DeFilippo. The Tigers would take a 2-1 lead in the game at 19:34 as DeFilippo and Hatch connected on a two-on-one. It was DeFilippo's fifth goal of the season.

Drexel tied the game 21:16 as Mastropaolo scored off a rebound. The Dragons held a slim 9-8 advantage in shots in the first half and a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.

Susan Ciufo gave Drexel a 3-2 lead at 52:09 as she scored off a reverse shot on a loose ball.

Despite being outshot 15-2 in the second half, Towson was able to tie the game with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. DeFilippo scored an unassisted tally to knot the game at 3-3.

Tunell scored the game-winner 2:12 into the overtime period as Drexel was awarded a penalty corner. Tunell's goal was assisted by Mastropaolo and Sofia Sanguinetti.

Jenna Phillips made three saves in goal to earn the win for Drexel. Whitney Clugston made six saves in the loss for the Tigers. Megan Penza had a defensive save for the Tigers.

Drexel finished the game with a 26-10 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in penalty corners.

Towson returns to action when it plays its season finale on Sunday, October 31 at 1 p.m. at Hofstra.
