Hofstra Defeats Tigers, 3-2

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - A pair of second half goals lifted Hofstra to a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Sunday in the season finale for both teams.

The Pride (7-11, 2-6 CAA) struck first in the game as Arielle Williams scored her 13th goal of the season at 11:42. Williams' goal was assisted by Dieke ter Weel.

Towson (8-10, 2-6 CAA) got the equalizer at 18:58 as Kate Nolan scored her first career goal off a rebound on a corner.

The two teams headed to the break tied at 1-1. Towson held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the first half and a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.

Hofstra took a 2-1 lead in the 39th minute as Shannon McCardell scored off an assist from Williams. The Pride added to their lead in the 41st minute as Micaela Gallagher scored her fourth goal of the season. Gallagher's goal was assisted by ter Weel.

A little over two minutes later, the Tigers pulled to within one on a goal by Kristie Blumer. Blumer's team leading ninth goal of the season was assisted by Megan Penza. Penza's point was the first of her career.

The Tigers were unable to find the back of the goal again and Hofstra claimed the 3-2 victory.

Amanda Heyde made six saves to earn the win in goal for the Pride. Whitney Clugston made one save in the loss for the Tigers.

Towson finished the game with a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Tigers lose Blumer, Clugston, Brooke Smith and Blythe Mackie to graduation. Towson will return four of its top five scorers next season.
