Tigers Fall To Drexel, 97-55

PHILADELPHIA,Pa. - Drexel took the fight out of the Tigers midway in the first half and sprinted to a 97-55 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson Tuesday night in the Daskalakis Center.

The win gave the Dragons a sweep of the Tigers for 2009-10 as Drexel improved to 13-11 and 8-4. It was their largest margin of victory in the 54-game series with the Tigers who dropped to 5-17 and 2-10 in the league.

The Dragons, who had to hang to earn their 52-49 win over the Tigers in the Towson Center in mid-January, broke the game open midway in the first period. After Calvin Lee's bucket closed Towson to within a point, 17-16, the Dragons went on a 17-3 run, led by freshman Chris Foucher off the bench. Fouch ignited the run with eight points. He tallied 15 points in the half and finished with a game 28, one sort of his career high.

Down by 15 the Tigers scored six straight points to trim Drexel's lead to nine (34-25). But that is as close as Towson would get the rest of the contest. The Dragons outscored the Tigers 13-5 to assume a 47-30 lead at halftime.

The Tigers couldn't slow down the Dragons in the second half. Drexel broke out on a 19-2 run to push its lead to 66-32. The Dragons led by as many as 45 points twice.

It didn't help Towson's cause that leading scorer Lee was disqualified on fouls with 14:51 left in the game. Lee left with 8 points and zero rebounds.

Freshman Isaiah Philmore led the Tigers with 12 points and six boards. He was the only Towson player in double figures.

In addition to Fouch, Derrick Thomas had 12 points. Eleven players scored for the Dragons who put up a season high with the 97 points.

Towson is back on the hardwood this Saturday afternoon when the Tigers host James Madison in the Towson Center. Opening tip is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
