TOWSON, Md. - After posting a season-opening victory over local rival UMBC on Wednesday, the Tigers will renew acquaintances with another long-time rival when they visit 11th-ranked Loyola at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday afternoon. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
It will be the start of a quick two-game road trip for the Tigers, who will also visit Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon.
Led by three goals and an assist from junior Jess Dunn and senior Jacie Kendall, the Tigers posted a 15-7 verdict over the Retrievers on Wednesday in their season opener. It marked the eighth straight year that the Tigers have won their season opener and also marked the first career "hat trick" for Dunn, who had scored just seven career goals prior to Wednesday.
Freshman midfielder Ashley Waldron also made an instant impact for the Tigers, scoring three goals off the bench in her college debut. Meanwhile, senior midfielder Hillary Fratzke made a return to the field after nearly a year following an injury and scored three goals. Fratzke has scored a goal in 49 straight games, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.
Currently 2-2 on the season, the 11th-ranked Greyhounds had their brief two-game win streak snapped with a 13-12 overtime loss against Denver on Wednesday afternoon. After dropping their season opener at 18th-ranked Penn State, the Greyhounds defeated Virginia and UMBC prior to the loss on Wednesday.
Junior Grace Gavin leads the Greyhounds with 11 goals and 3 assists while senior midfielder Emily Gibson has added eight goals with three assists. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Kerry Stoothoff has stopped 56.0 per cent of the shots she has faced in four games while posting a 9.02 goals against average.
The Tigers and the Greyhounds will be meeting for the 38th time in a series which Loyola has dominated, winning 29 of the previous 37 outings. However, the teams have split the last two meetings after a 25-game win streak by the Greyhounds in the series.
The Greyhounds earned a 15-12 victory in last year's meeting at Unitas Stadium.
After Saturday's game, the Tigers will take on the Blue Jays in a 4 p.m. game which will be televised on ESPNU.
