TOWSON, Md. – After earning their fourth straight win on Saturday night, the Tigers have entered the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I rankings for the first time this season.
The Tigers, who are ranked 14th in this week's poll, are ranked in the USILA poll for the first time since March 3, 2008 when they were the 18th-ranked team in the nation. It is also their highest regular season ranking since May 7, 2007 when they were ranked 14th in the nation.
Now 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Tigers took over sole possession of first place in the CAA standings with an 8-7 victory over seventh-ranked Drexel University at Johnny Unitas® Stadium on Saturday evening. It marked the second straight week that the Tigers have defeated the seventh-ranked team in the nation.
Graduate student Christian Pastirik led the Tigers to the victory by recording a career-high five assists, including three in the second half, as Towson rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Dragons for the 13th time in the last 14 meetings.
Junior goalkeeper Travis Love, who has started the last seven games for the Tigers, made ten saves in the victory, including a save from 18 yards out as time expired to preserve the victory.
The Tigers' leading scorer with 18 goals and 15 assists, Pastirik has tallied 13 points during the Tigers' win streak. He ranks fourth in the CAA with a 3.30 point per game average and is tied for third in the CAA with a 1.50 assist per game average.
Senior midfielder Will Harrington leads the Tigers with 20 goals and is tied for eighth in the CAA with a 2.00 goal per game average. He ranks second on the team with 24 points in 10 games, a 2.40 average.
Love, who has a 5-2 record as the Tigers' goalkeeper, ranks second in the CAA and ninth in NCAA Division I with a .576 save percentage. With an 8.80 goals against average, he ranks third in the CAA and 17th nationally.
The Tigers have won four straight games for the first time since the 2006 season when they defeated UMBC, Drexel, Villanova and Sacred Heart.
The Tigers, who are 4-2 at home this season, will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they face Penn State at Unitas Stadium at 12 noon. The game will be televised live on WMAR-TV in Baltimore and via tape delay nationally on ESPNU.
A win over the Nittany Lions on Saturday will give the Tigers the top seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, which begins on May 5.
