UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Coach Missy Doherty of the Tiger women's lacrosse team has been named as the head coach at Penn State University, it has been announced by Penn State Director of Athletics Tim Curley.

Named as the ninth head coach in Nittany Lion history, Doherty replaces Suzanne Isidor, who stepped down in early June.

In her seven seasons as the Tigers' coach, Doherty led Towson to a 79-46 record, including five seasons with 13 or more wins. During her tenure, the Tigers won three Colonial Athletic Association championships and reached the NCAA Tournament four times.

After leading the Tigers to a school-record 14 wins in her first season in 2004, Doherty led the Tigers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance by winning the Colonial Athletic Association championship.

The Tigers also won back-to-back CAA titles in 2008 and 2009 and reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three years. After posting a 13-4 regular season record this past season, the Tigers earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament at-large bid.

During her seven-year tenure, Doherty coached six All-America selections, including senior midfielder Hillary Fratzke, who became the first three-time selection in school history.
