Tigers Fall to Richmond 2-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A pair of second half goals lifted Richmond to a 2-1 win over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon in College Park. Towson (0-1) got its lone goal from freshman Kathleen Morris.

"I thought we did some things well early especially defensively but just couldn't carry that momentum," said Coach Michelle Webber.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard early as Morris' goal came just 2:18 into the game. Jamie Salvador fed a long pass across the middle that Morris was able to bang home.

Towson maintained the 1-0 lead heading into the half despite being outshot 8-2 in the half.

Richmond got the equalizer at the 50:14 mark in the second half. Christina Amorose took a pass from Jessica Hollis after a scramble in front of the net and knocked it home.

The Spiders got the game winner just over 12 minutes later. Dani Pycroft took a shot from the far left post that found the back of the net.

Anna Zarkoski earned the win in goal for the Spiders after making two saves. Whitney Clugston took the loss after allowing two goals and making three saves for the Tigers.

Richmond finished with a 18-3 edge in shots in the game. Towson finished with six saves to Richmond's two. Kim Schnell had a pair of defensive saves and Salvador had one in addition to Clugston's saves.

The Tigers return to action when they travel to North Carolina for a pair of games next weekend. Towson will face Davidson on Saturday and Appalachian State on Sunday.
