CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Tigers place five players in double digit kills en route to a 3-1 win over Stony Brook on Saturday morning as part of the Marriott Cavalier Classic/American University Tournmanet. Towson (11-4) snapped a four-match losing streak behind Britney Loomis' first "double-double" of the season.
Susan Gansor had four kills and three blocks to lead the Tigers to a 28-26 win in the first set. Stony Brook hit .265 and grabbed a 25-22 win in the second set. Loomis and Shelynne Hoyt had four kills apiece to help the Tigers bounce back and take the third set, 25-19. Gansor had five kills and no hitting errors to help the Tigers take the fourth set by a 25-16 margin and win the match.
Loomis finished with 12 kills and 11 digs for her first "double-double" of the year while Gansor posted a team-high 13 kills. She would also add six blocks in the match. Hoyt contributed 10 kills and three service aces for the Tigers. Katy Buck and Kelsey Hoefer each added 10 kills in the match. Buck would also tack on 10 digs for her fourth "double-double" of the year. Evan Schulz had a career-high 50 assists while Rachel Gambow added a team-high 14 digs.
Ashley Headen led Stony Brook with 14 kills while Hailee Herc contributed 19 digs.
Towson returns to action when it faces Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
