Tigers Shut Out Appalachian State, 2-0

BOONE, N.C. - The Tigers earned their first win of the year with a 2-0 shutout of Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon. Towson (1-2) won its fourth straight game against Appalachian State and its second straight shutout versus the Mountaineers.

"I thought we applied pressure well throughout the game," said Coach Michelle Webber. "Kasie Nurko stepped up when we needed her today and capitalized on a nice pass from Kristie Blumer."

The Tigers got on the board first with a goal in the 21st minute. Blumer scored her first goal of the season to put the visitors ahead 1-0.

The Tigers held a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard at the half and held a 13-4 advantage in shots.

Towson added to its lead in the 61st minute as Nurko scored her second goal in as many days. Nurko scored off a pass from Blumer.

Whitney Clugston started the game in goal for the Tigers and played the first 67:17. She made four saves to help the Tigers with the shutout. Jamie Dowling played the final 2:43 in goal and was not forced to make a save. Bridgette Streets made seven saves in goal for Appalachian State and took the loss.

Towson finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots including 11 shots on goal. The Tigers also held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners. Appalachian State finished with 9 saves to the Tigers' five.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, September 8 when they host La Salle at 6 p.m.
