Tigers Sprint Past Johns Hopkins, 160-102

BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Meredith Budner won a pair of individual events and also was a member of a winning relay team to lead the Tigers (12-1) to their fifth straight win, a 160-102 non-conference victory over Johns Hopkins University at the Blue Jays' Newton White Athletic Center on Friday afternoon.

Budner set a JHU pool record in the 50-yard freestyle by winning the event in 24.38 seconds before taking first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.86. She also helped the Tigers place first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.79, which set a JHU pool record.

Freshman Cassie Sorna finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.68 while freshman Melanie Rowland took first place in the 200-yard freestyle by completing the event in 1:55.79.

Senior Chelsea Kling took first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.86. In addition, junior Jenny Nevin won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.08.

Junior Marianna Kogut led the Tigers on the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.09 seconds while senior Cari Czarnecki had a first place effort in the 200-yard individual medley by touching the wall in 2 minutes, 10.57 seconds.

The Tigers will finish the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they host George Washington and Howard at 1 p.m. at Burdick Pool.
