TOWSON, Md. - Jonathan Mason has been named the Coordinator of Operations for the Towson University women's basketball team it has been announced by Coach Joe Mathews.
"I am very excited to have Jonathan as part of our staff," said Mathews. "I have known him for years and he will be a tremendous addition to our program. He brings excellent collegiate experience and also a very successful record as a Maryland high school head coach."
Mathews added, "I am fortunate to have a staff that is comprised of great character and passion and Jonathan fits perfectly. He will have a great career in women's basketball."
Mason joins the Tigers from the BayArea Shuckers, a professional basketball team in Pasadena, Md. He served as one of the Shuckers' assistant coaches since May 2011.
Mason also served as the head coach of the Meade High School girls' basketball team from April 2010 until he took the position with the Tigers. While managing all aspects of the program at Meade, he led the squad to a 19-6 record and its first county championship in 14 years. Prior to taking on the head coaching job with the women's team, Mason served as the assistant coach for the boys' team at Meade from August 2009 to March 2010.
Mason is a 2006 graudate of Frostburg State where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. He also earned his Masters of Education Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Frostburg State in 2008. While at Frostburg, Mason gained valuable knowledge by working with the men's basketball team as a team manager and assistant coach for three years.
He spent three months as an intern in the University of Maryland women's basketball office, helping the staff plan recruiting trips and handling other duties as assigned.
