West Named As CAA Offensive Player of Week

RICHMOND, Va. - A four-time selection as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, freshman tailback Terrance West of the nationally-ranked Tigers (7-2, 5-1) has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 5.

On Saturday, West led the Tigers to a 40-30 victory over CAA-leading Maine, creating a three-way tie for first place in the CAA. At Maine, he rushed for a career high 183 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns.

"Terrance, Tremayne (Dameron), Tyler (Wharton) and our offensive line had a phenomenal day against an extremely impressive opponent," said Coach Rob Ambrose. "I am so proud of how hard these kids have worked and that they are earning the respect of both themselves and their peers."

West, who is the fourth-leading rusher in the CAA with 929 yards on 141 carries, gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead at Maine when he capped off a ten-play, 66-yard drive by scoring on an eight-yard touchdown run with 7:24 left in the first quarter.

On the third play of the second quarter, he gave the Tigers a 14-7 lead when he scored on a two-yard run. He scored his third touchdown of the game with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter, capping off a 75-yard, ten-play drive with a four-yard run.

West, who leads NCAA FCS with 21 touchdowns, has rushed for more than 100 yards in five consecutive games, the longest streak since Noah Read, '02 had eight consecutive 100-yard games in the 2000 season.

Averaging 6.6 yards per carry, West was named as the CAA Rookie of the Week after Tiger wins over Villanova, Richmond, Old Dominion and William and Mary. In the last five games, he has rushed for 756 yards and scored 16 touchdowns.

One of the top candidates for the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in NCAA FCS, he has been named as the National Freshman of the Week by The Sports Network twice.

West joins Tiger quarterback Grant Enders as Tigers who have been named as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week this season. Enders was honored after leading the Tigers to wins over Morgan State and William and Mary.

An All-Metro performer at Baltimore's Northwestern High School, West accumulated more than 4,700 total yards in his high school career. After a year at Fork Union Military Academy, he enrolled at Towson University during the spring semester and was one of the Tigers' most impressive newcomers in the 2011 Tiger Bowl.

The Tigers, who have been ranked among the NCAA FCS Top 25 the last six weeks, host New Hampshire in a battle for first place in the CAA on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Johnny Unitas® Stadium. It will be the Tigers' final regular season home game.
