Longwood Defeats Tigers, 2-0

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 victory over the Tigers on Saturday morning. Katie DeFilippo led the Tigers (0-2) with three shots in the game.

"The team played well today but just couldn't finish when we needed to," said Coach Michelle Webber.

Longwood (1-0) got on the board in the 16th minute as Amanda Babineau scored off a shot from the right post. Babineau's goal was assisted by Alison Akers.

That was the only goal of the first half. Longwood held a 6-4 edge in shots during the first 35 minutes. Towson had three first half penalty corners to Longwood's 0.

It remained a 1-0 Longwood advantage until the final minute of the game. Brittany Diaz was able to poke a shot over the left shoulder of Towson goalie, Christina Siwiec to make it a 2-0 final score.

Longwood outshot the Tigers 5-3 in the second half and held an 11-7 advantage for the game. Towson had five more penalty corners in the second half and finished the game with an 8-4 edge in that category.

Siwiec finished with three saves for the Tigers. Kaye Goulding recorded four saves to post the shutout for Longwood.

Towson returns to action on Friday, September 2 when it travels to College Park, Md. to face the University of Virginia at 1:00 p.m.
