Tigers Edged by Late ODU Goal, 2-1

NORFOLK, Va. - Looking to earn their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season, the Tigers appeared to be headed to overtime against Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon. However, a goal in the 89th minute lifted the Lady Monarchs (4-4-2, 1-0-1) to a 2-1 victory over Towson (5-5-0, 0-2-0) at the ODU Soccer Complex.

The win allowed the Lady Monarchs to extend their unbeaten streak to three straight matches while the Tigers dropped their third straight match.

Old Dominion took a quick 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when sophomore defender Amber Cook headed home a pass from senior defender Rachel Carroll for her third goal of the season.

But, the Tigers answered in the 22nd minute when sophomore forward Katie Holtzapple tallied the first goal of her college career on a free kick to the right side of the goal.

The score remained tied until sophomore midfielder Hallie Rogers scored her first goal of the season, a 15-yard shot past senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak with 1:51 remaining.

However, the Tigers were unable to get a shot in the final minute as the Lady Monarchs held on for the victory.

Papciak, who entered the game as the CAA leader in saves, recorded eight saves for the Tigers, who were outshot by a 16-9 margin.

Brianna Alvarado recorded two saves for the Lady Monarchs, who snapped a three-game winless streak against the Tigers.

The Tigers will wrap up their five-game road trip on Thursday afternoon when they travel to James Madison for a 6 p.m. CAA game against the defending CAA champion Dukes.
