WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior Ashlea Carl gave the Towson University field hockey team an early lead but it was not enough as American University earned a 6-2 victory. Sophomore Tashani Dickson made 10 saves for the Tigers (1-14).
Carl gave the Tigers a lead just 1:34 into the game as she scored off a penalty corner. Fellow senior Kate Nolan recorded the assist on the goal.
American scored the next four goals of the game to take a 4-1 advantage at 21:01 of the first half. Shelly Montgomery had a goal and an assist during that stretch for the Eagles.
Towson would strike one more time before the half as junior Caite Barnwell scored at 22:57. Senior Kasie Nurko and sophomore Kelly Mattingly earned the assists on Barnwell's goal.
American outshot the Tigers 10-6 in the first half.
American scored two more goals in the second half to make it a 6-2 game. Montgomery scored her second goal of the game while Alex McMakin added a goal.
American finished the game outshooting the Tigers 26-9 and held a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Ashley Dalisera made a save to earn the win in goal for the Eagles while playing 44:24 in goal. Stephanie Burry made two saves while playing the remaining 25:36 in goal.
Towson returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when the Tigers visit Maryland for a 7 p.m. game.
