Lowe Stars as @Towson_SWIMDIVE Opens POD Meet

NORFOLK, Va. - Sophomore Matt Lowe won the 1,650-yard freestyle event to highlight the opening day of the POD meet for the Towson men's swimming and diving team on Friday, setting a pool record with a time of 16:00.73. The Tigers had the top three overall finishers in the event as senior Zack Stone finished second and sophomore Jon Burr third. The Tigers are competing against Old Dominion and George Mason in the meet.

"To do that against Old Dominion and George Mason which have very good distance swimmers is a tremendous accomplishment for our guys," Towson head coach Pat Mead said. "We're trying to earn some respect in the conference. Swim by swim, we are getting there and it has to be everyone stepping up and contributing."

Freshman Matt McKenney also had a strong showing in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing only behind Old Dominion's Sidni Hoxha. McKenney timed 21.35 in the event.

On the diving boards, senior Alex Cohen continued his early season success by winning the one-meter competition with 274.30 points.

The meet will conclude Saturday.
