RICHMOND,
Va. – Freshman righthander Taylor Clarke of Towson University has been named as the co-winner of the Colonial
Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week award, it has been announced
by CAA officials.
Clarke shared the award with freshman shortstop Chad Carroll of James Madison
University.
Last Friday, Clarke came within three outs of
pitching the first no-hitter by a Tiger pitcher in 27 years when he combined on
a 6-0 shutout of Central Connecticut.
Clarke took a no-hitter into the seventh inning
against the Blue Devils before allowing a single by sophomore rightfielder Dylan Delacruz.
With the drama of the
no-hitter gone, Clarke was relieved by senior righthander Tyler Austin. Austin recorded
the final three outs, nailing down the Tigers' 6-0 victory, a combined one-hit
shutout.
Making only the second start of his college career,
Clarke earned his first win by pitching six shutout innings against Central
Connecticut. He walked four batters and struck out five.
Two of the batters he
walked were erased on double plays.
In three appearances, Clarke has pitched 13.1
innings and has a 1-1 record with a 4.72 E.R.A.
He has walked six batters and
has 11 strikeouts.
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Tigers
return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host UMBC at 2:30 p.m. at
John B. Schuerholz Park.
