TOWSON, Md. – For the second consecutive Saturday, the Tiger football team held
a scrimmage that lasted more than two hours in Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
“I saw some good things and some not-so-good things,” said Coach Rob Ambrose. “This is our 11th
practice and we have some guys who are banged up.”
Wide receiver Spencer Wilkins was involved in two of the biggest plays of the scrimmage. Early in
the scrimmage, he caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Grant Enders. Later in
the scrimmage, he caught a 42-yard TD pass from quarterback Connor Frazier.
Running back Terrance West
had an individual highlight when he broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run.
Defensively, linebacker Joe McCargo intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.
Freshman cornerback Ben Harvey also
picked off a pass and brought it back 60 yards for a TD.
“We've been practicing at 5 a.m. for the last few weeks,” added
Ambrose. “What we learned today is that makes a difference. We were playing in
some warmer weather today. That's another aspect of adversity that we need to
deal with.”
After missing last week's scrimmage, Enders was impressive as he
directed the offense. Last season, he started 11 games and led the Tigers to a 9-3 record and a Colonial Athletic Association championship.
“Grant knows the offense and he looks comfortable running it,”
added Ambrose. “When he is out there, the offense looks much more cohesive.”
Ambrose added, “The offense is a machine that isn't ready at full
speed in the Spring. The idea is to have it ready to go when the season starts
in the Fall. We are making strides and we are confident we'll be ready when the
season starts.”
While Enders has played well at quarterback, “red shirt” freshmen Price Litton and Frazier have been
making progress.
Ambrose said, “It is gratifying to watch those young guys grow and
get better the last few weeks.”
The Tigers start their final week of Spring ball on Tuesday
morning.
Next Saturday afternoon, the Tigers will play Tiger Bowl II in
Johnny Unitas® Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
