KENT, Ohio - Here are ten things you should know about the Tigers' season opener at Kent State:
1) The Tigers are seeking their first-ever win over an NCAA
BCS program when they face Kent State. Towson is 0-4 against teams from the NCAA's
upper division with losses to Navy, Northwestern, Indiana and Maryland.
2) Derrick Joseph, the Tigers' All-CAA kick return
specialist, has switched his jersey number to No. 2. He wore No. 80 last season
when he led the CAA with a 27.9 kickoff return average.
3) The Tigers have three captains this season – Jordan Dangerfield,
Grant Enders and Doug Shaw.
4) Towson finished the 2011 season with a four-game road
winning streak, posting wins at Old Dominion, William and Mary, Maine and Rhode
Island.
5) The Tigers were one of five Colonial Athletic Association
teams that made the NCAA FCS playoff field last season.
6) Thursday night's game is the first of Tiger football six
games that will be televised this season.
7) The Tigers will be playing their seventh game in the
state of Ohio tonight. Towson has a 1-5 record in Ohio with games at Ashland,
Dayton and Youngstown State.
8) Place kicker D.J. Soven attempted eight field goals and made seven of them last season. He was
two-for-two on field goal tries outside 40 yards.
9) The Tigers finished the 2011 season as the ninth-ranked
team in NCAA FCS, the first time Towson finished the year as a top ten team in
FCS football.
10) Towson is a pre-season top ten program in FCS football
for the first time ever.
