TOWSON, Md. - Competing in its first home meet of the season, the Towson University women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories over Hood College (final score of 239-49) and Howard University (239-40) Saturday at Burdick Pool.
Numerous Tiger freshmen had fine performances, including Carly DeLiberty, Davina Jaynes, Melissa Toy, Olivia Evans and Casey West. All five won events for Towson.
Jaynes was strong in the 1,00-yard freestyle, timing 10:21.18. She also won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.60.
Toy won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.82, while DeLiberty won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.76 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.91.
Evans won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.78, leading two other Tigers who all finished less than a second apart in the event. Hannah Snyder placed second in 1:01.21, while senior Hillary Atkinson was third in 1:01.51.
Evans also took home first place in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.44.
The sprint freestyle events were also productive for Towson, as Kaitlin Burke won the 50-yard freestyle in 23:66 and Amanda Barber won the 100-yard event in 52.15.
Towson next faces William & Mary and Georgetown in Washington, D.C,. next Saturday. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
