HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Junior Kelly Mattingly and senior Kate Williams both scored for the Towson University field hockey team, but the Tigers were defeated on the road by a score of 5-2 by the Hofstra Pride (6-12, 2-2 CAA) Sunday afternoon.

Towson (1-15, 0-5 CAA) fell behind 1-0 around the 10-minute mark of the first half when Hofstra's Marta Penas scored her second goal of the year to open the scoring.

But the resilient Towson offense came alive at the end olf the first period when Mattingly took a pass from Kathleen Morris off a penalty corner and scored her second goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 with 5:22 left in the first half.

Although the Pride took a lead shortly before the opening half ended, the Tigers again answered courtesy of Williams. The senior's third goal of the season evened the score at 2-2 just 2:14 into the second half. On the play, the Tigers' Kayla Lesesne had the assist. It was Lesesne's first career point for Towson.

Hofstra then scored three goals in a span of 6:38, taking the lead for good and earning the win.

Towson heads to Drexel for the Tigers' regular season finale against the Dragons on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
