Tigers Announce 2014 Softball Schedule

TOWSON, Md. – Two home tournaments and a pair of tournaments in South Carolina headline the 2014 Towson University softball schedule.

"Everyone in our league is not only very good but they are also improving,” Towson Head Coach Lisa Costello said. “I'm excited about our schedule because these tournaments can prepare us for our conference schedule.”

Towson begins the year on February 7 at the University of South Carolina Upstate Classic. The three-day tournament pits the Tigers play Youngstown State, Eastern Michigan and North Carolina Central in addition to the host Spartans. Virginia is also in the field of competing teams.

Towson returns to South Carolina on February 14-16 for the Kickin' Chicken Classic, hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Tigers are slated to play against Syracuse, Purdue, LaSalle and the Chanticleers for a total of five games over three days.

The Tigers wrap up their road tournament schedule at the Longwood Spring Classic on Feb. 22-23. Towson plays Lafayette and Longwood twice each as part of the tournament.

The first home date for the Tigers is also their first tournament, as Rhode Island, Manhattan and Delaware State take part in the Tiger Invitational on February 28 through March 2. The tournament will feature three games on each day starting at 10 a.m., including two for the Tigers on March 1. They play Manhattan at 12:30 p.m. and Rhode Island at 3 p.m.

After a road game at Georgetown on March 4 at 2:30 p.m., Towson hosts its second tournament of the season on March 7-9. The Towson Classic includes Delaware State, Canisius and Albany in the same format as the Tiger Classic.

After midweek games at home against local rivals Morgan State and UMBC on March 11-12, Towson plays three games at Winthrop on March 15-16 and remains in the Carolinas with games at North Carolina A&T (March 18) and Elon (March 19).

From March 21-23, the Tigers host Quinnipiac and Wagner for an extended weekend series at the Tiger Softball Complex.

The Tigers open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play at home against defending champion Hofstra on March 29 with a doubleheader against the Pride and a single game on March 30.

The month of April opens with five straight road games, as Towson goes to Lafayette for a twin-bill on April 2 then resumes CAA play against James Madison April 5-6. After a home doubleheader against Temple, Towson welcomes rival Delaware for a three-game series April 12-13 and heads to Drexel on April 18-19.

Towson concludes its non-conference schedule with a game at Mount St. Mary's April 23 before concluding its home schedule against UNCW on April 26-27. The Tigers complete the regular season on May 2-3 at the College of Charleston.

All home conference doubleheaders will begin at noon.
