ITHACA, N.Y. – Overcoming a tough performance on the balance beam, the Tigers (4-4) posted a 192.325 team score to edge Cornell University (191.00) in a dual meet at Teagle Hall on Saturday afternoon. The victory extended the Tigers' dual meet winning streak over Cornell to 10 in a row.

The Tigers had to overcome an early deficit to edge Cornell. On the first rotation, Cornell took a lead by earning a 48.175 team score on vault while Towson had a 47.975 score on bars. That gave Cornell a 0.20-point lead.

On the second rotation, the Tigers used a 48.45 team vault score to take a lead. Freshmen Katie Sassa and Lydia Thompson led Towson on vault. Sassa won the vault with a 9.875 score, a career high. Thompson contributed a 9.75 vault score to the Tigers' cause. She finished third in the meet.

Towson extended its lead with a solid performance on floor exercise. Junior Alexa Davis and senior Britney Russell led the Tigers to a 48.375 score on floor as the Tigers went on to post a win.

“We did very well on vault,” said Coach Vicki Chliszczyk of the Tigers. “Katie (Sassa) keeps getting better every week. We were also solid on floor. But, we had a fall on bars and two falls on beam. It is very frustrating because we will hit these routines all week in practice and then we make mistakes in our meet.

The Tiger coach praised sophomore Lauren Ross for her performance on balance beam after hurting a finger warming up. She was also pleased with freshman Vicki Vesecky, who had a 9.60 score on bars.

Freshman Abby Griswold competed as all-arounder for the second week in a row and earned a 38.325 score.

The Tigers return to action next Friday night when they visit the University of Maryland for a 7:00 quad meet in the Comcast Center.  Towson and Maryland will be joined by North Carolina State and New Hampshire in the meet.
