TOWSON, Md. –
In the final athletic event in the
Towson Center, senior Stephanie Stoicovy
of George Washington University won the all-around competition with a 39.20
score as GW earned a 194.475 team score to edge Towson University (194.100) in
a gymnastics meet on Friday night.
While
the Colonials won the quad meet with their 194.475 score, Towson was second
with a 194.100 score. Southern Connecticut took third place with a 191.325
score while West Chester (189.150) finished fourth.
The
Colonials turned in a very consistent effort in winning the meet. GW earned a
48.675 team score on beam and a 48.250 team score on floor. The Colonials also
had a 48.675 score on vault and a 48.875 score on bars.
Towson
came up with a seasonal high 49.025 team score on floor but it wasn't enough to
overcome the Colonials on the final rotation.
Competing
in her final home meet, senior Britney Russell of Towson tied for first place on floor with teammate Abby Griswold. They both earned 9.85
scores. Sophomore Lauren Ross also
contributed a 9.80 to take third.
Stoicovy
won the balance beam competition with a 9.85 score while teammate Betsy Zander took second place with a
9.825 score. Sophomore Janis Konkle
finished third on beam for the Tigers with a career high 9.80 score. The Tigers
also got strong performances on beam from junior Alexa Davis and freshman Erin Odom, who each had 9.75 scores to tie for fourth place.
Junior
Kiera Kenney of GW took first place
on bars with a 9.85 score while sophomore Samantha Lutz of Towson finished second, matching her career high of 9.80. Taylor Henderson and Stoicovy of GW
tied for third place with 9.775 scores.
On
vault, senior Rebecca Brady of
Southern Connecticut took first place with a 9.85 score. Freshman Katie Sassa of Towson was second with a
9.825 score as she tied for second with Henderson.
Russell,
who was honored in post-meet ceremonies, tied for sixth on vault with a 9.725
score.
In
the all-around competition, Griswold earned a career high 38.95 score as she
finished second in the meet. Zander was third with a 38.475 all-around score.
The
Tigers close out the regular season on Sunday, March 17 with a meet at George
Washington against the Colonials, Maryland and Brown.
