HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Junior Kurt Wertz drove in four runs as the Tigers (11-7, 4-2) completed a three-game sweep over Hofstra University with a 14-8 CAA win on Sunday at University Field.

The Tigers, who scored 43 runs in the series, jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first three innings and weathered a comeback by the Pride.

Hofstra pulled to within 13-8 before the Tiger bullpen nailed down the win.

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when third baseman Zach Fisher, designated hitter Dominic Fratantuono and catcher Andrew Parker loaded the bases on walks. A two-run double by Wertz gave Towson a 2-0 advantage. When Brendan Butler grounded out, the lead was extended to 3-0.

In the second inning, Hunter Bennett walked, second baseman Pat Fitzgerald singled and Fisher hit an RBI single for a 4-1 lead. Another run scored when Fratantuono grounded out.

Towson added three more runs in the third inning as Butler singled and stole second base. An RBI single drove in Butler. A walk to Fitzgerald and an RBI single by Fisher plated another run. Fitzgerald scored the third run when he scored on a double steal attempt.

In the fourth inning, Fratantuono walked and Parker hit an RBI double. Wertz drew a walk and scored on a wild pitch.

The Tigers extended their lead to 11-5 in the sixth inning when Fratantuono led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wertz. In the seventh inning, Fisher gave the Tigers 13-5 advantage with a two-run single.

After Hofstra pulled to within 13-8, the Tigers added a run in the ninth on another sacrifice fly by Wertz.

Senior lefthander Mike Ryan earned the win in relief, upping his record to 5-1. He allowed two runs on three hits in 3.1 innings.

Fisher led the Tigers with three hits and four RBI's while Wertz also drove in four.

The Tigers, who are now 9-3 on the road, return to action on Tuesday at Longwood.
